In 1916 Carl Michael Eger, a wealthy industrialist, left $60,000 and 2 properties in Brooklyn to create a home for older,
impoverished Norwegian Lutherans. In 1926 the home moved to its present 22-acre site on Staten Island. In 1957 a new
42-bed Eger Lutheran Home was built which welcomed people of all nationalities and denominations. Responding to
community need, Eger took a major step forward in 1971 by opening a 378-bed nursing home known today as Eger
Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.
Eger Today Positioned to meet the health care challenges of the next millenium, Eger remains Lutheran church affiliated and mission-driven to provide compassionate care. |
