VISITATION GUIDELINES

(EFFECTIVE JANUARY 12, 2022 AS PER GOVERNOR HOCHUL ORDER)

Please note the following important information as directed in a January 12, 2022 Memorandum from New York State Department of Health

"Mask, Personal Protective Equipment, and Physical Distancing Requirements for Visitors:

All visitors must:

Wear a well-fitting non-surgical paper mask or a mask of higher quality (i.e., surgical mask, KN95 or N95) at all times during any visitation at the facility. If the visitor wishes, a cloth mask may be placed over the paper mask. The masks must cover both the nose and the mouth; and;

Testing for Visitors: In addition, all nursing homes licensed and regulated by the New York State Department of Health must verify that visitors have received a negative SARS-CoV-2 test result one day prior to visitation for antigen tests and two days prior to visitation for NAAT (e.g. PCR) tests.

All visitors may use either NAAT testing or antigen testing. This means, for example, that a test for a Sunday visit should be conducted no earlier than Saturday if it’s an antigen test or Friday if it’s a PCR test. Any PCR or antigen test used must either have Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or be operating per the Laboratory Developed Test requirements by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Facilities can offer to conduct onsite testing of visitors, if practical. (Eger Health Care will post available self-testing hours on our website and in the lobby by the Security and Sign in Desk.

For visitors who visit for multiple days, including a visitor who comes every day, proof of negative testing is required as often as feasible, at a minimum every other day. Therefore, we encourage you to keep your negative test result with you to show so that it can be checked utilizing the date provided and the date of your visit.

Although not mandated for end of life (Hospice) residents, the facility is encouraging you to be tested so that we can help keep this virus under control at Eger Health Care Center.

Visitation Requirements

• Physically distance from facility personnel and other patients/residents/visitors that are not directly associated with the specific resident(s) being visited by that individual."

Often during rounds, we have had to remind family and friends not to take off their masks while visiting with the residents and to please not eat while visiting the residents. Of course, you may continue to bring treats and other food items to our residents, and they may remove their masks to enjoy your delicious treats while visiting with you, but you must continue to wear your mask.

As you are aware we are struggling with staffing due to the virus and how it has affected our staff as much as it has affected our residents.  Although able to bring staff back quicker, we must only bring them back from being ill if they are asymptomatic.  Therefore, not everyone falls into the five-day category, and some are out much longer.

This virus is consuming all our time in caring for our residents and it is preferred for you to be tested outside of the facility and bring your negative result with you to the facility.   Remember, with your results, we request that you bring your vaccine card and photo id to the facility. We will continue with checking vaccine cards, and we have a visiting area for those unvaccinated so that you do not travel to the resident units.

Also, please think about getting your booster.  It is being offered at almost every pharmacy on Staten Island as well as vaccine sites. Please contact your health professional with any questions.

Again, your ongoing support is greatly appreciated.  Stay safe, wear your mask, and remember to be vaccinated and boostered.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE:

At this time we are asking for your assistance during the current COVID-19 positivity rate increase in our community by helping us in the following manner.

In order to avoid an increase in our facility COVID-19 positivity rate, we have put in place the following for our resident’s safety.  In order to visit on our resident units, you will need to show your vaccine card and your photo identification to security when you enter the facility.

Unfortunately, we cannot make any exceptions for unvaccinated visitors to go to the resident units except for end of life or hospice residents.  In those circumstances we will ask you to double mask if you are not vaccinated to go to the unit and to please keep your visit to the resident room and to not remove your masks while on the unit.  Unvaccinated visitors will be able to visit in an area we have chosen and the resident will be able to meet you there.  Although not mandated, due to space limitation, we ask for you to limit the time of your visit so others will have an opportunity to visit.

All vaccinated visitors must continue to wear their mask on the unit, do not remove it to eat or drink anything while visiting.  All visiting must take place in the resident’s room who you are here to visit. Please do not visit from room to room during this time.  Please remember to wash your hands when you arrive and before your leave the unit. Hand sanitizer is available throughout.

Due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in our community we are requesting that no one under the age of 16 visit with our residents until further notice.

When you are in our facility visiting your family member, friend, neighbor, only visit in the room that this resident lives in.

Do not invite other family members visiting other residents into the room, do not go room to room. If you are not a resident representative you may not enter a resident room.

You must follow strict infection control practices or you will be asked to leave the facility.

There should be no visiting in hallways.

If you wish to visit with another visitor, please do so in the Main Lobby or outside of the facility.

Your cooperation is appreciated.

If you find out after you visited that you are COVID+ or have been in close contact with someone who is COVID+ please notify the facility nursing supervisor immediately so we can begin contact tracing.
Please help us keep COVID out of our facility.  We are trying to do everything we can to keep your family member safe.

I want to thank you for your assistance and cooperation.  Remember to bring your vaccine card, you can show your Excelsior pass on your phone and you must have your photo ID.  Please inform your other family and friends who visit and we will also limit the number of visitors at one time to two.
Happy  and Healthy 2022 to you and your family.
